[edit] There is a NEW VERSION!  It's better.

[edit] Now has a version with layers for Pixlr, an online editing program~  Thank you to ParadoxSketchbook for putting it together!  Nice work my friend :D

So the .zip now has:
  • The preview image
  • The font file
  • Font instructions
  • Terms of use
  • Folder with:
    • The photoshop template
    • The paint.net template
    • A pdf form of the half on the right
    • An ms-paint friendly color palette (the squares on the left)
    • Each layer as a separate png file
    • The pixlr template
    • And a picture of a paperclip
I may make a new ref sheet soon.  We'll see :D

AW YES FINALLY DONE WITH THIS

Ok, sorry, this took me days.  I'm very proud of it.  :D
Didn't actually expect to finish it today...

This is a character reference sheet, free for anyone to use, with lots of space for images of your characters and information about them as people.  It's adapted from old ref sheet templates I made years ago, plus character questionnaires like this one creativewritingguild.com/exerc… , plus places for art.

My intention here is to give people who usually just think about the visual design of their characters a springboard for fleshing out and balancing their characters; and to give people who think about their characters' personalities a lot a chance both to write it down and to really solidify their visual design.

Also fun.  I love filling out stuff like this for my characters.

There are many like it, but this one is mine.
It has way more detail than the ref sheets I've seen so far.
and
AND
It actually makes sense.

I usually have two problems with ref sheets.  One, they're usually geared entirely toward either what the character looks like, or entirely what the character acts and feels like.  Two, they make zero visual sense.  What I mean is, I take a look at some of these lovely, beautifully designed ref sheets and I can't stop thinking 'who the hell keeps a record that looks like this, in real life?  It would be... impractical.'  And that bugs me.  A lot.  (Gee, I'm not compulsive or anything...)

So, I started thinking about ref sheets in terms of what records actually look like.  And I remembered that my character Marcie keeps records on literally everyone.  (No, really, everyone)  Which in turn got me thinking about what her records would look like... and I realized, I could make a template out of that!

.zip file includes:  This preview image, the font Mara_Script_Font (it's the font I used), instructions on how to install fonts (just in case), Terms of Use (just says you can make modifications and post to other websites as long as you leave the credit on and link back here), Photoshop Template, instructions in case you're confused, paint.net template (isn't as detailed as the photoshop template, because I literally just downloaded paint.net yesterday), png template (no layers, just, ah, work around that if you need to?), pdf form of just the questionnaire on the right (I couldn't make images import right... sorry.  Plus Adobe pulled support for converting pdf to images.  Greedy bastards!); and finally, a folder containing each layer in the photoshop and paint.net files separated into still images, in case you use a different program that supports layers but can't open .psd files.

I am planning on making a free bases pack to go along with this.  We'll see how it goes, though.  I highly encourage you to draw as much as you can yourself, it will help you learn.

If you use this, please tag me in the description.  ^.^

Need help with colors?  fav.me/da1fjdz

Have fun!  I know I will.

The stuff behind the photos to the left is star charts; the stuff behind the form to the right is random circular gallifreyan.  Just in case you were wondering.
